A Moment of Change and Celebration at the 2025 Middlesex AGM

The 2024 Middlesex Annual General Meeting marked an important moment of transition and celebration for the County. Members gathered to acknowledge the achievements of the past year, welcome new leadership, and recognise individuals whose dedication continues to strengthen the sport across all disciplines.

This year, Gerry Gillespie formally succeeded Allan Thornton as President of Middlesex. Gerry is widely respected across the County for his longstanding commitment to aquatic sports, and Middlesex extends a warm welcome as he begins his presidency. The County looks forward to a productive and successful term under his guidance.

One of the evening’s most notable honours, the President’s Cup, was presented to Gillian Neal. Gillian’s tireless work behind the scenes—much of it unseen but absolutely essential—has been instrumental in keeping the County and its programmes running smoothly. Her contribution spans countless hours of administration, coordination, and quiet problem-solving, and the award recognises both her dedication and her impact.

Another highlight of the AGM was the presentation of the Ron Turner Trophy, awarded to Jaspreet Gill for her outstanding contribution to water polo. Jaspreet’s achievements place her among the most promising young athletes in the UK, and her performance over the past few years has been exceptional.

Still under 18, Jaspreet already holds a remarkable sporting résumé. She was part of the Great Britain U19 squad at the European Championships in Malta (Summer 2025), and played a vital role in her club’s success, including securing silver at the U17 National Age Group Championships. She also competes at senior level, playing in the Women’s First Division of the British Water Polo League for West London Penguins.

Her leadership extends well beyond the pool. Jaspreet is captain of the Girls’ Section at West London Penguin Water Polo Club, captain of the school team at Notting Hill and Ealing School, and serves as a Sports Scholar, Sports Captain, and a member of the Head Girls’ Team. Her supportive attitude, maturity, and encouragement of younger athletes have made her a role model within both club and school communities.

Summary of Jaspreet’s additional achievements:

  • Selected for the GB U20 squad
  • Winner of the Ealing Junior Sports Person of the Year Award
  • Represented England U18 at the 2024 EU Nations
  • Named Most Valuable Player across the entire U18 Inter-Regional Division 1 Competition (2024)
  • Part of a club team that has won the London League for three consecutive years
  • A certified lifeguard and Assistant Water Polo Coach, contributing to the development of younger athletes at club sessions, the U15 National Conference League, and the U15 National Age Group Championships

Her combination of athletic excellence, leadership, and service to the sport exemplifies the spirit of the Ron Turner Trophy, making her a thoroughly deserving recipient.

The 2024 AGM showcased the depth of talent, commitment, and community spirit within Middlesex. With new leadership in place and outstanding individuals continuing to elevate the County, the future of aquatic sports in Middlesex looks stronger than ever.
